Alcohol-free rum: our selection

22 references from rum without alcohol, from the bright white alternative to the more elaborate amber versions. Made by distillation of plants, spices and wood, or by dealcoholization of a real rum, each reference retains the sweet, spicy and slightly woody character that is the signature of the style.

What makes a good non-alcoholic rum

Classic rum owes its character to fermented and then distilled sugar cane, with notes that vary from fresh vegetal (white agricultural rum) to woody vanilla (amber rum aged in barrels). Without alcohol, reproducing this complexity requires real know-how: the best references rely on a long maceration of cane sugar, vanilla, roasted oak and sweet spices (cinnamon, cloves) to recreate the warmth and roundness of rum, without ever falling into overly sweet syrup. This is what distinguishes a real non-alcoholic rum from a simple flavored syrup: aromatic depth and length in the mouth.

Our number 1 reference

Sober Spirits R 0.0% remains our absolute best-seller in this category. Distilled in Savoie from a real dealcoholized rum recipe, it retains the structure and woody roundness that make the difference in a cocktail. This is our default recommendation for anyone new to non-alcoholic rum.

In cocktails: good reflexes

Alcohol-free rum is used exactly like classic rum, in the same proportions. For a successful mojito, opt for a white vegetable rum combined with freshly crushed mint (not chopped, to avoid bitterness), lime and very cold sparkling water. For a daiquiri, choose a rounder rum, with a touch of cane sugar and freshly squeezed lime juice. For a non-alcoholic piña colada, a more vanilla rum goes better with pineapple and coconut.

FAQs

Does non-alcoholic rum taste like rum?
The best references preserve the sweet, vanilla and spicy notes thanks to careful plant maceration or dealcoholization which preserves the aromas. The texture in the mouth remains slightly different (less fat than alcohol), but the aromatic experience is stunning.

How to store it after opening?
Like a classic spirit, at room temperature, protected from light. Without alcohol as a preservative, certain references (notably those based on maceration) keep for a little less time than traditional rum - check the product sheet.

What is the difference between “distillate” and “dealcoholized”?
An alcohol-free distillate (like Sober Spirits) starts with real rum and then removes the ethanol through vacuum distillation. Botanical maceration (like certain Nolow products) directly infuses aromas into water without ever going through alcoholic fermentation. Both approaches give good results, with slightly different profiles.
