🧑‍🌾 ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Brouwerij 't IJ has been brewing original Amsterdam specialty beers since 1985. Musician Kasper Peterson founded the company after becoming familiar with Belgian beer styles.

As a member of the band Door Mekaar, he performed regularly in Belgium and developed an above-average interest in the beer of his southern neighbors. As a similar specialty beer was not yet brewed in the Netherlands, he decided to make it himself.

The beer he first brewed, still in a squat, soon became the talk of the town. Looking for a bigger place, he came across the vacant municipal baths in Funen. This building, with an extensive water supply and drainage system and a steam generator, was ideal for brewing. The neighboring De Gooyer mill does not belong to the property but has served as the ultimate landmark since the beginning.

Shortly after brewing began, the bathhouse added a tasting room and terrace. As the Funenkade brewery could no longer meet the demand for IJ beer, we opened a second location in January 2013.

In 2015, Brouwerij 't IJ and Duvel Moortgat entered into a partnership to gain support in areas such as brewing technology and distribution, as well as financial leverage.
