Non-alcoholic lager beers: our selection

84 references from non-alcoholic lager beers, light and thirst-quenching. Ideal as an aperitif or for refreshing, they retain the malty roundness and thirst-quenching side of a classic blonde.

What makes a good alcohol-free blonde

It's all about the balance between malt and hops. The malt brings the sweet notes of cereal, fresh bread or light honey which give its body to the beer. Hops introduce fine bitterness and floral, herbaceous or lemony aromas which prevent it from falling into blandness. In our selection, some blondes play the mineral dryness card, others rely on a softer and slightly sweet finish. What unites them: brewed with the same techniques as a classic blonde, they retain the character that made the style successful, without the alcohol.

A beer for all times

This is the strength of the blonde: it adapts to almost all occasions. A quick lunch, a mild cheese platter, grilled vegetables as an aperitif — it accompanies without ever dominating. It also knows how to shine alone, very fresh, on the terrace or in the early evening. It's not a demonstration beer, it's a companion beer, the one that you open without thinking too much about it and which appeals to both experienced amateurs and curious people discovering alcohol-free beer.

Our essentials

Triple Karmeliet, our most ordered reference, offers a rare roundness and complexity for a non-alcoholic beer. The blonde La Trappe Epos remains faithful to Belgian Trappist standards. La Chouffe without alcohol seduces with its spicy and fruity character typical of abbey beers. Three different profiles, three ways to appreciate the style.

If you were disappointed by alcohol-free a few years ago

It's time to try the experience again. Brewing and dealcoholization techniques have progressed enormously: today's alcohol-free blondes no longer have much in common with the flat, characterless versions of ten years ago. If you are a fan of classic blondes, you will find here what you like – the roundness of the malt, the freshness of the hops, the balance on the palate – with one less abuse.

FAQs

Which blonde should you choose to start with?
The Triple Karmeliet or a La Trappe blonde are safe values, close to classic Belgian standards.

Does it taste as good as a classic blonde?
Brewing techniques have progressed enormously and allow the malty and thirst-quenching character of the style to be retained — much better than a few years ago.

What to accompany it with?
Mild cheeses, grilled vegetables, vegetarian tapas or simply on their own, very fresh.
